Claire is a groupie. A Laurie Berkner groupie. The obsession started with Laurie's short videos between shows on Nick Jr. Then we saw her on Jack's Big Music Show. She has a beautiful voice and sings lots of original children's songs as well as some classics. They're catchy and well-done. Even my husband sings them!! The band consists of Laurie Berkner (lead vocals, guitar), Susie Lampert (keyboard/piano, vocals), Adam Bernstein (bass, vocals) and Bobby Golden (percussion and drums). Laurie's husband, Brian, was previously in the band but has since decided to pursue another career. Since he appears on the DVD that we own, Claire still talks about him as if he is in the band.
When I heard that The Laurie Berkner Band was having a concert in New Jersey, I immediately bought tickets. We went to Red Bank on a stormy spring day and saw the concert. Claire loved every minute of it and sang and danced along as if she was in the band! We went and saw the band a second time in Morristown with my brother and nephew since the first concert was that good.
Claire listens to one of her Laurie Berkner CDs before she goes to bed each night. She puts the CD on when she wakes up in the morning, so my "alarm clock" is hearing a Laurie Berkner song on the baby monitor around 7 am every day. Several times Claire has said to me, "When I grow up, I want to be Laurie Berkner. You can be Susie." She's a true fan.
